Our weekend started on Friday afternoon at 2:15, that is when I pick my two big boys up from school. Both Tyson and Landon were excited because they had both made perfect scores on their spelling tests-- Tyson made a 120 (ten words plus two extra credit words) and Landon made a 100. This was only Landon's second week with spelling words, both weeks he made a 100. Woohoo.
After pick up each day, the boys always want to rush home, have a snack, quickly finish their homework (which they have Monday through Thursday and sometimes Tyson has weekend homework), and then they rush outside to play. Some days they have worked so fast, they are outside before the school bus even drops off our neighborhood kids. The school that they attend is in the subdivision that we live in- they are THAT excited to get outside to play. Tyson started playing basketball with the Upward Bound league this year, so he spends a lot of time practicing shooting baskets with other neighborhood kids. He has also learned to dribble the ball between his legs, which is entertaining for me as his mother to watch. He and Landon also really enjoy riding their bikes and their rip sticks. They have a ramp that they can ride over for hours at a time.
Anyways... they went outside and played for a little while, counting down the minutes until Evan got home. You see, we were going to all go to the kids first college basketball game. Evan's college- North Carolina Wesleyan- was playing in the conference semifinals that evening at 7 pm, so we were going to take the boys to watch the game. This had them fired up and super excited! When Evan got home, they were eager to hop in the car and hit the road. The only problem was, it wasn't quite time to go. They must have asked us a thousand times if it was time to go yet. :-)
A little before 5, we all got ready to go cheer on the battling bishops. We got decked out in our blue and yellow outfits and hit the road. The comical part of that was that I had spent the morning trying to find us all outfits to wear that would fit the color scheme- and when we got to the game, I think we were the only ones besides the cheerleaders that wore the team colors. haha. Tyson was so excited to watch these big boys play ball- it really was exciting. These kids could really play! Landon, on the other hand, was more interested in what was being sold at the concession stand. Between his visits to concessions and the bathroom, I am not sure that he even knew there was a game being played. Ahhh... that is our Landon. Peyton and Chloe did a really great job at the game too, even though it went past their bedtime. During half time the college president (Evan's boss) and his wife, and one of Evan's co-workers (the VP of Academic Affairs, I believe) and his wife stopped by and visited with us. The kids were behaved, which was refreshing. :-) We ended up leaving the game about halfway into the second half because it was so late, and we still had an hour to drive to get home. The team won, which is very exciting for the college!
Saturday was a busy day as well. Landon pulled his second tooth (well, technically his dad pulled it for him- but he got the credit). He just lost his first tooth last week- this is all happening too fast. haha.The boys played outside for a little while, and then we had lunch as a family and headed to Tyson's last basketball game of the season. All I can say is this-- we should have taken him to a college basketball game at the start of the season! haha. That boy was on FIRE! We had so much fun cheering him on. He even got to shoot some foul shots, and one went in! Everyone knew who his parents were then. :-)
Later that night we had our nephew Nathan and his girlfriend, Sarah, over for dinner. We have always enjoyed Nate's company, and it has been so exciting to watch him grow into the fabulous young Christian man that he is. We can not wait to see him graduate in May- we are so proud! We had a great visit with them once again.
Sunday morning we went to church and heard a great message, as usual. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful- we had brunch, then we came home and cleaned up the backyard a bit. The boys spent some time on the trampoline (all three of them) and Chloe did lots of crawling around and standing up on things that she could pull up on. We had a nice dinner of leftovers, followed by a delicious crock pot rocky road cake- YUM! Now all of the kiddos are bathed and in bed for the night- what a great feeling. Evan is hard at work (as always) and we are enjoying the Academy Awards in the background.
Overall, it was a great weekend. We have so much to be thankful for! :-) God bless!
